The opportunity
Our client is an international renewable energy investment and development platform expanding into Japan's battery energy storage market. The role will lead investment evaluation, transaction execution, financing, and commercial strategy while helping establish and scale the business.
Responsibilities
- Lead investment evaluation, financial modelling, and execution of BESS development and acquisition opportunities.
- Structure and execute project financing, manage lender relationships, and drive transactions to financial close.
- Develop investment committee materials, valuations, and transaction recommendations.
- Establish investment processes, governance frameworks, and financial reporting structures.
- Coordinate external advisers and negotiate with developers, investors, lenders, contractors, and strategic partners.
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and portfolio performance.
- Work with development, technical, commercial, and asset management teams to optimise investment outcomes.
Requirements
- Strong experience in renewable energy investment, project finance, infrastructure private equity, or project development.
- Proven track record in transaction execution, acquisitions, M&A, or structured financing.
- Experience raising and executing project finance facilities for energy or infrastructure assets.
- Advanced financial modelling and valuation skills.
- Strong understanding of Japan's energy market and power sector.
- BESS experience and knowledge of tolling, capacity markets, or merchant revenue models preferred.
- Fluent Japanese and business-level English required.
